The weather has been cold recently, and the thick quilt at home finally came in handy.
However, after putting the quilt for a few months, there will always be a strange smell when taken out, and many people choose to take advantage of the sun.
The sun-dried quilt is very fluffy, and it smells of a fragrant smell, so someone said, this is not the smell of burnt mites.
It sounds scary. Does this smell come from mites or the sun?
What does the smell of drying quilts have to do with?
In fact, this has nothing to do with mites.
Although the mites in the house like to multiply on bedding, sheets, sofas, towels and other places, the smell of the quilt after drying is really not related to the mites.
80% of the mite body is water, and the other 20% is basically protein. When the water is roasted, it will only become steam, and the protein will only be a burnt smell when it is burned. Obviously, the smell of the quilt is so good that it will certainly not come from the burnt mites.
Where does the smell of the quilt come from?
In fact, when the quilt is exposed to sunlight and ultraviolet rays, the chemical bonds of oxygen in the quilt will break, forming ozone.
When the fiber from plants or animals in the quilt is heated, it is mixed with the smell of ozone, which is what we smell.
There are 4 hazards of mites
Although the smell of the quilt does not come from mites, mites are everywhere and breed everywhere. They especially like to attach to the human body. There are countless mites in different places in the house.
Damage the skin
Mites absorb nutrients from the skin to survive. Their secretions can clog the pores, thicken the stratum corneum, rough the skin, accelerate the production of fine wrinkles, and increase the speed of pigmentation such as melasma and freckles.
Cause inflammation
The excrement of mites will enter the deep skin tissues, and at the same time will bring various pollutants and bacterial foreign bodies that the skin comes into contact with into the skin. People with weak skin resistance are prone to inflammation.
Cause allergies
The excrement of the mites will be drawn into the air as dust, and the human body will produce allergic reactions, such as strong sneezing and poor breathing.
Hair loss
The mites parasitic on the hair can damage the hair roots, absorb the nutrients of the hair, make the roots of the hair thinner, and secrete lipolytic enzymes to block the growth of hair follicles and cause hair loss.
5 kinds of quilt removal tips
1. Cotton quilt
Cotton quilts are filled with cotton. Generally, such quilts should not be washed with water. The correct scientific cleaning method is to remove the quilt cover and expose the quilt to the sun to kill the mites.
You can also lightly hit the surface with a small wooden stick when drying.
note:
Don’t use too much force during the beating process, as that will cause the cotton fibers to break and the quilt will become thinner and less warm. In the south, cotton is easily damp, and it is best to dry it every two weeks.
2. Silk quilt
Silk quilt is the favorite of many girls, because it is rich in protein, soft and skin-friendly, it is not prone to mites.
However, the silk will smell after being used for a period of time and needs to be treated. Generally speaking, the silk quilt only needs to be placed in a cool place and blown.
note:
Silk quilt is different from cotton quilt. If exposed to the sun for a long time, the silk will become more brittle and not warm.
3. Fiber quilt
The cleaning of the fiber quilt is relatively brief and rough. Putting it in the washing machine and washing it with laundry detergent can kill most of the mites. Moreover, the fiber can be exposed to the sun and can be washed, which is very convenient.
note:
Fiber is easily stained with peculiar smell, so it needs to be taken out and cleaned from time to time.
4. Duvet
If you want to remove mites from the duvet, it is not suitable to be exposed to the sun, otherwise the protein molecules in the duvet will be decomposed, and the fluffy feeling and warmth retention of the duvet will decrease.
It is recommended to put the duvet in a ventilated place to dry.
note:
If the duvet has a small area of stain or odor, you can spray lemonade on the duvet evenly to clean it.
For large-scale cleaning, it is best to send it to a laundry shop or manufacturer for after-sales treatment.
5. Wool quilt
The wool quilt is thick and warm, the material is natural, and it won’t have the unpleasant smell of the duvet, but the wool cannot be placed directly in the sun, otherwise it will damage the quilt.
For the sterilization treatment of wool quilt, you can dilute alcohol and water 1:1, pour it into a watering can, and then evenly spray it on the wool quilt for sterilization.
note:
Sprinkle yellow rice on the woolen quilt, then gently tap the quilt, and then brush it with a brush. The floating dust and bacteria will be absorbed by the yellow rice.
